I was born in Okinawa, Japan, but grew up in Las Vegas, NV. I come from a family of 5 and am part of a set of triplets. I am married to 'Maggie' Mary Tubilleja and we have 2 children, Patrick and Caitlin. We also have 2 cats and a dog, so family life is part of what keeps me busy. I like to exercise by running, hiking, and lifting weights. Lately I have been involved in high intensity workouts with a company called Camp Gladiator. I have also recently taken up kettlebells, which is an amazing workout. I am a vegetarian, and have been since 2014. My Dad had a lot of cardiovascular issues so I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Professionally I have worked as a preschool teacher for students with autism prior to becoming a TVI in Las Vegas. My wife wanted to move back to where she grew in NC and we did so in 2004. In NC, I have worked for what was then the Governor Morehead School for the Blind Outreach Program as an Itinerant Outreach Consultant and Short-Term Instructor. Later when the Outreach Program was folded into the DPI EC Division, I worked for about 6 years as a State VI Consultant, Low Vision Clinic Coordinator and American Printing House for the Blind Ex-Officio. Because I wanted to get back to working with and teaching VI students directly, I left DPI to work for the State VI Preschool Program and now currently for the NC Rehab Center for the Blind, where I provide instruction in College Prep, AT and 1-Touch Self Defense. I love to volunteer. I volunteer for my wife's community garden in Garner, NC-APVI, NC Braille Literacy Council, NC AER and now with the Eye Shine Foundation. I enjoyed working with the Foundation and their engagement with the VI youth community during a number of outings, so it was a natural move for me to join the board.
